Physicians Assistant

Jonathan R. Wood, PA-C, ATC

Mr. Wood is a Physician Assistant with extensive experience in orthopedics and sports medicine. He holds an athletic training degree from Longwood University. After graduating, Mr. Wood was a certified athletic trainer for Chippenham Sports Medicine where his responsibilities included sports coverage for Midlothian High School.

His interest and abilities in orthopedics and sports medicine inspired him to pursue a master's degree in Physician Assistant studies from James Madison University.

His role at Go Orthopedics

Mr. Wood will evaluate patients and work closely with Dr. Goradia and other members of our healthcare team. He will have daily clinics, including days when Dr. Goradia is in surgery, which will allow our patients more opportunities to make appointments that are convenient.

Mr. Wood will also be present at area high schools and other sports events as part of Go Orthopedics’ commitment to sports medicine. We are fortunate to have a Physician's Assistant with the credentials and experience Jonny brings to our practice. A more detailed definition of the letters you see behind his name is below.

What those initials mean
  • PA=Physician Assistant
  • PA-C= The "C" means the PA is nationally certified.
  • ATC=Athletic Trainer, Certified

Definition of a PA

A physician assistant (PA) is a licensed health professional educated to practice medicine with the supervision of a physician. A physician assistant is qualified to provide many of the health care services traditionally performed only by a doctor. PAs are required to take on-going continuing medical education classes and be re-tested on their clinical skills on a regular basis in order to maintain national certification.

PA training is demanding in its own right. PAs must meet the same standards of care for the patients they treat as their supervising physician. As a team, both are responsible for the health and well-being of the patients seen in our practice.

What is an ATC?

An ATC is a Certified Athletic Trainer, a highly-educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. An ATC is a healthcare provider capable of performing immediate and emergency injury treatment, assessment and rehabilitation. Athletic Trainers work closely with other members of the medical team to oversee patient care.
