"The thing that struck me was that he wasn't judgmental about how I made a living. He knew that racing was my livelihood. It's how I put food on the table. And he said, 'Look if you want to race again this season, here's what we need to do.' Just like that."

“Having injured my shoulder and torn my rotator cuff, the pain would wake me up at night – and prevent me from swinging a golf club. I knew the tear needed surgical repair, but hoped it could be fixed arthroscopically, so that I’d experience less post-operative discomfort and speed my return to work. I consulted with two orthopedists. Both said they could only perform an “open” repair."
"Then, I decided to search the Arthroscopy Association of North America's (AANA's) web site for an arthroscopically trained surgeon in Charlottesville, where I live. I considered having the shoulder surgery done by one of the local AANA members, several of whom were on staff at UVA. But on the association's web site, I saw that Dr. Goradia provided the training videos that other orthopedists view when learning how to repair shoulders and knee injuries arthroscopically. I was well aware that surgeons who teach other surgeons use the latest techniques and equipment and are usually very skilled. At my appointment with Dr. Goradia, I was told he performed 99% of his repairs arthroscopically. We scheduled the procedure and Vic, his staff and those at the hospital couldn't have been more professional. After surgery, I was provided with a Game Ready Accelerated Recovery System, which dramatically decreased my pain and helped me return quickly to normal activity. I was also given a Kinetec Centura Anatomical Shoulder CPM Machine which helped prevent joint stiffness, edema, soft tissue contractures and muscle atrophy. As a result, I didn't have to take any pain medication I was given. Best of all, I was back at work in a week and snow boarding in only three months. With some physical therapy, I was able to regain about 95% of my shoulder's range of motion and strength. I even think the surgery helped my golf game."

"Before I came to Dr. Goradia, I had eight major surgeries from five different surgeons. For my back, legs and shoulder. You could say I have a dangerous job. After an accident in Illinois back in 1998, the surgeon out there put a rod in my leg. I came back home and after some digging and lots of phone calls, I found Dr. Goradia and made an appointment with him. The thing that struck me was that he wasn't judgmental about how I made a living. He knew that racing was my livelihood. It's how I put food on the table. And he said, 'Look if you want to race again this season, here's what we need to do.' Just like that. He found a bone chip in my leg and insisted that I let it heal. But he also showed me how bicycling at low resistance would increase blood flow to my lower leg - which was key to accelerating the healing. He didn't preach. He said, "we'll do whatever we have to get you back on the bike." After three months, he had me in such good shape that I won my very next race. That was after no racing for the whole season."
"Then, I was injury-free for two years. Unfortunately, in 2005 I blew out my right shoulder which had been reconstructed in '98. Dr. Goradia sent me to physical therapy for a week but didn't like the results. So he did an MRI and said, "everything in there is mangled." He couldn't tell if it was from the prior reconstruction or the latest accident - but he was honest. He said that he'd work with what I had left, which were thin shreds of muscle. He operated but wouldn't promise anything. Turns out, my shoulder is stronger than in years past. All I can say he saved my career. A lot of docs would have said it's too messed up to work with. But he used special home exercise devices and even had the anesthesiologists give me a shoulder block to help me fight the pain of the scar tissue building up. Most of all, he stuck with me for years. When I needed him, he always fit me into his schedule. He encouraged me and was sensitive - to my pain and my profession."

“I came to Dr. Goradia the hard way. The summer before my senior year of high school, the surgeon who operated on my injured foot promised I’d be back on the football field in 4-6 weeks. After that, he examined me and said, 'let’s give it another five weeks.' There was no way I was going to miss my senior year as a starting offensive lineman, so we saw Dr. Goradia for a second opinion, that day! He looked at me and said three things: 'You can play now – just don’t push it – and use your brain.' It worked and I started the next game! A few weeks later, I broke my other leg and Dr. Goradia was there that night, on the sidelines. Instead of a cast, he fitted me for a boot that allowed movement and faster healing. Thanks to him, I was back on the field for the playoffs. Now, I’m heading to William & Mary."

“From my initial visit to Dr. Goradia through the operation and my recovery, I couldn’t have asked for better treatment. He’s a super guy and a super surgeon. He actually grafted bone from a cadaver donor knee to mine. It’s called an osteochondral transplant. And he told me I could be out of work for up to six weeks. Well, with all the exercises he gave me and the physical therapy he recommended, it took only four weeks before I was back on my feet as a mechanic. Absolutely no problems since then. I couldn’t be happier.”

“Four years ago, I had ACL knee surgery from an old soccer injury. I guess playing soccer through high school messed it up again because a few months ago, I was having really bad pain and swelling. My mom’s doctor sent me to Dr. Goradia. Once he examined me, he ordered an MRI of my knee. He said my ACL looked “wavy” – that it was causing a partial tear of my medial meniscus. So he performed ACL reconstruction and also repaired my medial meniscus. He even gave me exercises to begin the next day. Two weeks later, he showed me that I was doing my leg lifts with the wrong form – and corrected me. I didn’t know that a surgeon would do that. I’m really happy with how I’m feeling now, just four weeks after surgery.”

“After two years of seeing a doctor who treated my right shoulder for rheumatoid arthritis, I was tired of no improvement. In fact, the cortisone shots did less for me, each time. My primary care doctor recommended Dr. Goradia who performed a shoulder arthroscopy with rotator cuff repair. The day I came home from the hospital, a special chair was there that Dr. Goradia ordered – to elevate my shoulder and allow me to move it. I recovered twice as quickly as my neighbor who had the same surgery a year earlier. In just a few weeks, I was mobile and stronger….Being Dr. Goradia’s patient was awesome. When I arrived for each appointment, I never had to wait. And his nurse gave me her direct line, so I could call her anytime with questions. And I did!”

“I don’t know of any surgeon who gives patients what I call a ‘tool set’ after their surgery. From a ‘game-ready’ ice machine to special chairs, each of Dr. Goradia's patients receives what he believes will best reduce post-operative pain and swelling. For him, a patient’s recovery begins the moment they’re out of surgery. From my point of view, his philosophy makes things much easier – because his patients are feeling great when they start with me. That makes their therapy more successful and rewarding. Does Dr. Goradia’s regimen work? I have to say I’ve never seen one of his patients have a bad outcome. And I’ve treated wrist, shoulder, knee, ankle – all kinds of recoveries.”
